PAST-inuous | Farah Saleh
PAST-inuous is a live interactive dance performance exploring the bodies of the artists as living archives and aspires to reflect on the future of the Palestinian refugee cause and its connection to the current global refugee condition.
The performance is choreographed by Edinburgh-based Palestinian dancer and choreographer, Farah Saleh. It was created digitally in collaboration with video artist Lucas Chih-Peng Kao
On her inspirations behind the work Farah, who is currently completing a practice PhD at Edinburgh College of Art, said:
“The performance is part of my practice-based research on the Archive of Gestures, through which I unearth hidden stories of the Palestinian history, dealing with the body as a living archive.
“In PAST-inuous 11 Palestinian dancers most third-generation refugees living in Palestine and Europe come together through a digital platform to remember our grandparents’ gestures in Palestine before they were expelled by the Israeli occupation and to notice their remanence in our bodies today.”
PAST-inuous takes place as part of Dance International Glasgow’s Spring Season at Tramway on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 March 2022 with 20-minute performances throughout each day from 12 pm – 5 pm.
PAST-inuous will also be performed at the Dundee Rep Theatre on March 29 and at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh on April 27 and 28.

Farah Saleh is a Palestinian dancer and choreographer active in Palestine, Europe and the US. She has studied linguistic and cultural mediation in Italy and in parallel continued her studies in contemporary dance. Since 2010 she took part in local and international projects with Sareyyet Ramallah Dance Company (Palestine), the Royal Flemish Theatre and Les Ballets C de la B (Belgium), Mancopy Dance Company (Denmark/Lebanon), Siljehom/Christophersen (Norway) and Candoco Dance Company (UK). Also since 2010, Saleh has been teaching dance, coordinating and curating artistic projects with the Palestinian Circus School, Sareyyet Ramallah and the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival. In 2016 she co-founded Sareyyet Ramallah Dance Summer School, which runs on a yearly basis. In 2014 she won the third prize of the Young Artist of the Year Award (YAYA) organized by A.M. Qattan Foundation in Palestine for her installation A Fidayee Son in Moscow and in 2016 she won the dance prize of Palest’In and Out Festival in Paris for the duet La Même. She was an Associate Artist at Dance Base in Edinburgh 2017-2021 and is currently finishing her practice-based PhD at Edinburgh College of Art.
